What Is TPU Laminated Fabric?
TPU laminated fabric is a high-performance composite material created by thermally bonding a TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) film onto a textile substrate — such as nylon, polyester, cotton, or aramid. The result is a fabric that inherits the best of both worlds: the flexibility and hand-feel of traditional textiles combined with the waterproofing, chemical resistance, and durability of TPU.
At Shanghai Functech Tech, we operate three dedicated cast-film production lines in our 8,500 m² facility in Songjiang, Shanghai. Our lamination process uses precision temperature and pressure control to achieve consistent, void-free bonding across widths up to 2,400 mm — ensuring your finished products perform reliably in the field.
Unlike PVC-coated fabrics, our TPU laminated textiles contain zero phthalates, zero plasticizers, and zero odour — making them the preferred choice for brands targeting eco-conscious consumers and regulated markets including the EU, North America, and Japan.

Technical Advantages of Our TPU Laminated Fabric
Every roll of laminated fabric is engineered to outperform — from raw material selection to final QC inspection.
Superior Waterproofing
Hydrostatic head ≥ 10,000 mm H₂O with monolithic TPU film — no micro-pores to clog or fail over time. Reliable waterproofing even after repeated flexing and washing cycles.
Breathability On Demand
Choose from standard non-breathable films or hydrophilic breathable grades with MVTR up to 15,000 g/m²/24h. Engineered for comfort in activewear, outdoor gear, and medical PPE.
Exceptional Durability
High tensile strength (≥ 30 MPa), abrasion resistance, and flex-crack resistance exceeding 100,000 cycles. Maintains integrity at temperatures from -40°C to +80°C.
Chemical & Hydrolysis Resistance
Polyether TPU grades provide outstanding resistance to hydrolysis, microbial attack, and common chemicals — ideal for marine, outdoor, and medical environments.
Eco-Friendly & Safe
100% phthalate-free, BPA-free, and latex-free. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified for skin-contact safety. Recyclable at end of life — supports your brand’s sustainability goals.

Case Studies — Real Projects, Proven Results
See how global brands have leveraged our TPU laminated fabric technology to bring superior products to market.
European Outdoor Brand — Waterproof Jacket Line
A leading European outdoor apparel brand needed a lightweight, high-MVTR laminated fabric for their premium waterproof jacket series — replacing a legacy PTFE-based membrane with a more sustainable, quieter alternative.
Solution: Developed a 15 μm breathable TPU film laminated to 40D nylon ripstop. MVTR achieved 12,000 g/m²/24h with a hydrostatic head of 15,000 mm H₂O. Surface texture was customized for a soft, silent hand-feel.
Result: 200,000+ meters delivered across 3 seasons. 5-day sample turnaround enabled the brand to hit their Spring/Summer launch window.
US Medical Device Manufacturer — PPE Coveralls
During the pandemic supply chain crisis, a US medical device company urgently needed a reliable supplier for ASTM F1670/F1671-compliant laminated barrier fabric for isolation gowns and coveralls.
Solution: Engineered a 20 μm polyether TPU film laminated to polypropylene non-woven. Achieved synthetic blood and viral penetration resistance per ASTM standards. Full ISO 10993 biocompatibility testing completed.
Result: 500,000+ meters delivered within 8 weeks. Established ongoing annual supply agreement. Client expanded order to include surgical drape laminates.
Japanese Industrial Equipment Maker — Chemical-Resistant Barriers
A manufacturer of industrial fluid containment systems needed a flexible, chemical-resistant laminated fabric capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to hydrocarbons, cleaning solvents, and UV in outdoor installations.
Solution: Developed a 300 μm polyether TPU film laminated to 600D polyester base fabric. Added UV stabilizer package for 5+ year outdoor service life. Custom olive green color matched to client’s existing product line.
Result: 3-year supply contract signed. Field testing showed zero delamination after 18 months of continuous outdoor exposure. Client consolidated from three suppliers to single-source with us.
Australian Watersports Brand — SUP Board Drop-Stitch Fabric
An Australian paddleboard brand needed a high-strength, RF-weldable laminated fabric for their premium inflatable SUP line — replacing PVC with a lighter, more environmentally responsible material.
Solution: Created a dual-side TPU lamination on drop-stitch polyester base fabric. Optimized TPU formulation for high-frequency welding with 2-second cycle time. Film thickness tuned to 200 μm for puncture resistance while minimizing weight.
Result: 15% weight reduction vs. PVC equivalent. 30,000+ boards produced without a single warranty claim for delamination. Brand achieved “PVC-Free” marketing claim for their entire SUP line.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our TPU laminated fabric — your question not here? Contact us directly.
Can you develop a TPU laminated fabric for my specific application?
Absolutely. Custom development is one of our core strengths. Share your substrate type, performance targets (waterproofing, breathability, abrasion, chemical resistance, etc.), and any certification requirements. Our R&D team will propose a formulation and deliver lab samples within 5–7 working days.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for laminated fabric?
Our standard MOQ is 500 linear meters per specification. For new product development, we offer low-volume trial runs starting from 100 meters. This flexibility allows you to validate the material in your production process before committing to larger volumes.
How do you ensure consistent bond quality across large production runs?
We use precision temperature-controlled lamination rollers with continuous monitoring. Every production batch undergoes peel-strength testing (minimum 5 samples per roll), and we perform AQL-based sampling inspection per ISO 2859 before shipment. Batch-to-batch traceability is maintained from raw TPU resin through to finished fabric.
Do you offer breathable TPU laminated fabrics?
Yes. We offer both standard non-breathable films and hydrophilic breathable TPU membranes with MVTR ranging from 3,000 to 15,000 g/m²/24h. Breathable laminates are widely used in outdoor apparel, medical PPE, and footwear applications where moisture vapor transmission is critical.
What is the difference between polyester TPU and polyether TPU for laminated fabrics?
Polyester TPU offers excellent mechanical properties and is cost-effective for general outdoor and consumer applications. Polyether TPU provides superior hydrolysis resistance, microbial resistance, and low-temperature flexibility — making it the preferred choice for medical, marine, and long-term outdoor applications. Our technical team will recommend the right grade based on your use case.
Can you laminate TPU film onto our supplied fabric?
Yes, we offer contract lamination services where you supply the base fabric and we apply our TPU film. This requires a sample of your fabric for compatibility testing and parameter optimization. Contact us with your fabric specifications for a quotation.
